I love God and His risen Son Jesus Christ. This website is not about me, it is about glorifying Him. With that said, Steven is an active performance artist in the Austin area - his experience playing in churches, hospice centers, coffee houses, private parties, and the such prepares him to play your next event (my music is appropriate for everything from weddings to funerals)t. He started his musical career playing alto sax in middle school and high school. His first string instrument was a guitar, but the mandolin has been his primary instrument since 1996. His musical style is unique and makes for great devotional or background music. We thank you for your interest in Steven's music. I also have posted a story about my walk as a Christian and some of the things I have gone through in my testimony which can be read in it's entirety on this site. I also have two beautiful children who I adore very much.
I grew up in Miami, Fl and attended Duke University. I spent the first 4 years of my career in the US Army with a tour in South Korea. I have also taught english in Japan and taught world culture in Austin. I am a full time musician and author at this point.
If you need to reach me you can do so at chocteemusic(at)gmail.com. Or by phone between US Central 9 to 5pm at 512-289-8765. Thanks and God speed.
I play an Eastman DG1 though I have tasted the delight of many builders in the past. Weber, Brentrup, Phoenix, Dickinson, Rigel, Altman, etc are are in mix. I think the Eastman Dawg mando stand up to the best of them. It has clear noting, great sustain, and beautiful features. It's good for playing around the house or using in a recording studio. My hat's off to all these builders. It takes a lot of time to build a custom instrument. Each is different and the builders deserve respect. I personally love learning a new instrument. That is part of who I am. Maybe I am just warming it up for the next player (Note: I think this Eastman is it - I really love it and don't see another mandolin in my future).
God speed,
Steven
